Compost Hero – From Scraps to Soil, Faster
A pair of inventors came to Design Elevation with a rough prototype, a clever idea, and a big goal: create a product that grinds food scraps into smaller pieces to speed up composting. The concept was strong—but the design, function, and manufacturability needed serious development.
We got to work refining the concept into something kitchen-worthy, ergonomic, and built to perform. The grinding mechanism was key, and it took multiple iterations, deep testing, and a whole lot of creative problem-solving to get it just right.
The final product includes over 35 unique components—a mix of custom injection-molded parts, precision-stamped sheet metal, and off-the-shelf components. Injection-molded parts are produced in the USA, sheet metal is stamped in the USA, and the full product is assembled right here in Colorado.
We used everything in our toolbox—mockups, 3D prints, laser-cut parts, and test rigs—to bring this complex build to life. And the result? A sleek, functional compost grinder that went on to win the Pinnacle Award for Innovation at the National Hardware Show.
The inventors walked in as clients—and walked away as friends, with a product they can be proud of.
